Biometric Tattoos Are the Future of Wearable Technology [VIDEO]

The main focus of consumer wearables has so far been on smartwatches. However, there are many ways other ways to wear technology. Chaotic Moon is one company that specializes in innovative wearables and their new product is the biometric tattoo.

The tattoo kit by the company is still at its prototype stage but its future looks very promising. The tattoo is made of components and conductive paint and can collect and send data much like how a Jawbone or Apple Watch does, Tech Crunch reported.

The tattoo is not permanent. It actually washes off like a temporary tattoo. However, health data like stress levels based on sweat, heart rate, and hydration levels can all be collected. The data can then be transported via Bluetooth or “location-based low-frequency mesh networks like those used for apps like Jott or Firechat.”

The military implications of such technology is very exciting even to Chaotic Moon's CEO Ben Lamm. “We get to do a lot of cool stuff at Chaotic Moon but with this we think there’s military applications for it, health applications for it and there are all kinds of opportunities around it.”

Experimental applications for the biowearable are detecting poisons in the air, identifying pathogens in the body, and knowing when a person is hurt. In a very real way, the tattoos turn the human body into one big circuit board, Design Boom noted.

Lamm believes that temporary tattoos are much better than permanent body modifications. The tattoo kits are meant to be cheaper, less invasive, and less annoying to maintain. For one, the lack of power charging requirements make Chaotic Moon's biowearables very convenient to use.

Aside from the medical and military fields, the banking industry can also use the biometric tattoos. They can presumably act as wallets worn on skin that have all the necessary information. This would potentially eliminate the cumbersome and vulnerable nature of bringing around cash or credit cards.
