At the show of the American rock band - Pearl Jam on Friday, the band paid tribute to the victims of the Paris attack by covering the song of the American rock band from Palm Desert, California, Eagles of Death Metal, "I Want You So Hard," which is the first single from Eagles of Death Metal's second studio album - Death By Sexy.
Eddie Vedder, Pearl Jam's lead singer, said prior to launching into the track during an encore, "We've never played this one before."
Josh Homme, the American musician, singer and songwriter who co-founded and occasionally performs with Eagles of Death Metal, performed on the 2012 single of Pearl Jam, "In the Moonlight" and he has also played alongside Pearl Jam as part of the rock band Queens of the Stone Age.
In the performance of Pearl Jam in São Paulo, the night after the Paris attacks, Pearl Jam also made the lyrics different to the band's song "Love Boat Captain," in order to make the song relevant to the Paris event.
The lead singer Eddie Vedder stated, "I wanted to say...I wanted to send out a message. Playing these shows it feels like family. A really, really big family. And of course, the band is always concerned about safety. For yours, for ours, for the crew, for everybody. You know music can bring joy. It also can help you deal with anger. It can also help you with sadness. And when you get a gathering of individuals at an event, all these things become more powerful because you are sharing them with all these other people at the same time."
However, the original lyrics of the song were referring to Pearl Jam's own experience with a concert tragedy, in the year 2000 crowd crush, where in nine people died and 26 were injured during the Pearl Jam's set at Roskilde Festival in Denmark. One of the primary factors was crowd surfing, and eventually, the tragedy forbade most festivals across Europe.
