Foo Fighters Paris: Surprise New EP ‘Saint Cecilia’ Launches For Free Honoring Paris Attacks Victims, ‘To Remind Us That Music Is Life,’ Says Dave Grohl

Following the tragic Paris attacks from last November 13, Dave Grohl's iconic band Foo Fighters announced they'd be halting the European wing of their tour, and now, less than two weeks after terrorists went against the City of Lights, they're honoring the victims of that dreadful Friday night, with a new Foo Fighters Paris album.

Although recorded on Austin's Hotel Saint Cecilia, the band's new EP, aptly named "Saint Cecilia," recently launched for free for fans all over the world, and the Foo Fighters' Paris dedication makes it clear who was on their minds during the launch.

According to Consequence of Sound, Foo Fighters' official website has featured a countdown for the past month, dedicated to some unnamed new launch, and as the clock struck midnight on November 23, it's now known that they were launching a new EP, now with a Foo Fighters Paris dedication.

As Billboard reports, since this is a Foo Fighters Paris homage, the band has released the new recording for free to stream or download from their website, but still fans can pre-order it on vinyl for $10.99, a month after the five-track material was originally recorded in Texas last October.

According to Pitchfork, the new EP came with a letter from frontman Grohl, as he recounted how the album had been planned as "a celebration of life and music" to end their "Sonic Highways" world tour, but the ISIS attacks gave the project a whole new meaning, prompting the Foo Fighters Paris dedication.

"Now, there is a new, hopeful intention that, even in the smallest way, perhaps these songs can bring a little light into this sometimes dark world," wrote the Nirvana alum. "To remind us that music is life, and that hope and healing go hand in hand with song. That much can never be taken away."
