A Way of Thanksgiving: Food Bank Staff, Volunteers Delight on Free Screening of 'The Good Dinosaur'

As a way of showing their appreciation and gratefulness, ABC7 and Disney treated staff and volunteers who continually extend their help in feeding the hungry.

Hundreds of staff and volunteers from Greater Chicago Food Depository and the Northern Illinois Food Bank enjoyed a free screening of the new movie The Good Dinosaur. The staff and volunteers were able to bring their families last Saturday to the special and private screening of the Disney-Pixar movie.

They were also treated with free popcorn and drinks inside United Artists Broadway Faire 10 Theatre in northwest Fresno

The move is part of The Walt Disney's efforts to support local food banks countrywide.

The Community Food Bank also received $1,500,000, including $15,000 in Fresno, to help provide the needy and the hungry with the needed fresh produce. ABC30 President and General Manager Dan Adams said that giving back to the community is vital. "This is very important for The Walt Disney Company, as our parent company, and ABC30 to give back to our community," Adams said. "We're thrilled to be a part of it."

The volunteers who took part of the special screening last Saturday are those who help serve over 280,000 people every month. This figure usually skyrockets during the holidays.

"We received a very large donation earlier this week," Community Food Bank CEO Andy Souza said. "And to follow it up with an event that we can say thank you to our staff and volunteers because, really, at the end of the day, they are the ones who are touching the lives of the people we get to serve."

The Good Dinosaur tells the story of a young dinosaur as he begin a journey on the world with a new human friends.  The movie is a computer-animated adventure comedy-drama film that is produced by Pixar Animation Studios and released by The Walt Disney.

Disney is the parent company of ABC7.
