After weeks of speculation, Michael Strahan will finally take his seat at the round table on "Good Morning America".
The former New York Giant made his debut on the morning show Tuesday to announce that he will be taking the part-time correspondent job. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Strahan was introduced with a montage of photos from his childhood and football career.
"So when you can do it all, what do you do next? Well, we've got good news for you, America, your mornings just got happier, 'cause now it's time to say good morning to Michael as he comes to Good Morning America," the voiceover said before introducing Strahan. Pharrell Williams' "Happy" played as Strahan happily walked down a red carpet.
"When I'm here a few days a week, can that play every time?" Strahan asked his new colleagues - Robin Roberts, Lara Spencer, George Stephanopoulos and Amy Robach, who recently replaced Josh Elliott when he moved to NBC Sports. The cast then presented him with an alarm clock and a huge coffee cup. "GMA" also gifted him with a barrel full of his favorite candy, Sour Patch Kids.
Spencer called Strahan a "super-sized personality," while Roberts added, "We're so excited. You're going to join us a couple days a week." Stephanopoulos added, "The way you all stepped in, especially while Robin was away dealing with her transplant, was so special to all of us. We're so glad you're going to be here all the time."
"It's a pleasure to get up early, because you guys have been so good to us as well, and Kelly and I really appreciate it," The 42-year-old star said. "Robin, you fill in for Kelly when she's not there, and it's a family. So we appreciate it."
Starting next week, Strahan will make appearances on GMA a few times a week. He has said this side job will not affect his daily duties hosting "Live! With Kelly and Michael." In addition to covering sports, he will also cover features on topics that interest him.
"Now instead of talking to the TV, I actually get to talk to you," he jokingly warned the GMA staff.
