Krysten Ritter is Perfect as Jessica Jones in the latest Netflix/Marvel production.

Krysten Alyce Ritter, 33, is an American actress, musician and former model, stars as Jessica Jones. This Netflix original chronicles the life of one of the darker Marvel characters, the mysterious Jessica Jones. When a tragedy puts an the end to her short-lived career as a superhero, Jessica settles in New York City and opens her own detective agency, called Alias Investigations, which seems to be called into cases involving people who have special abilities. Suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, Jessica wants to do good, but her primary interest isn't in saving the world, it's saving her apartment and getting through each day. Based on a graphic novel intended for adults, this is not a superhero story for the kids.

According to Variety, Jones is one of the most nuanced, complicated characters, female or male, leading a show. When she was asked what excited her most about taking the role, she said "It's kind of exactly what you just said. She's such an original, sort of obscure, misfit character in the Marvel universe and I love how grounded the show is and how deeply complex and developed she is. I feel like it's such a rare opportunity to get a role like this. It's a part that you find in some weird, dark, obscure independent movie that nobody will ever see, and fact that I get that opportunity on a Netflix platform, with the Marvel logo, it's completely insane. When I first read the script, I read the first few before I got the part, I walked out of there and felt like they were the best scripts I had read and the best part that I had ever seen, available to me or not. A tough female character like this doesn't come around every day."

A version of the series was originally in development by Rosenberg for ABC in 2010, that was eventually passed on. By late 2013, Rosenberg reworked the series, when it reentered development for Netflix as A.K.A. Jessica Jones. Ritter was cast as Jones in December 2014, with production on Jessica Jones beginning in New York City in February 2015 and lasting until late August.

All episodes premiered November 20, 2015, on Netflix. Critical reception for the series was overwhelmingly positive, with praise being given to Ritter and Tennant for their performances, the series' noir tone, approach to sexuality, and covering darker topics such as rape, assault, and PTSD.

Krysten Ritter's co-stars in the film are Mike Colter, Rachael Taylor, Wil Traval, Erin Moriarty, Eka Darville, Carrie-Anne Moss, and David Tennant.
