The latest "Justice League Dark" rumors are in, and they involve some pretty big developments if they prove to be true. New reports are claiming that a potential list of cast and up and coming horror directors are being eyed for the film.
Fans were certainly disappointed when Guillermo del Toro dropped the directing job for "Justice League Dark" over the summer. George Miller, who helmed "Mad Max: Fury Road," was then rumored to direct the film. In the end however, Miller also chose not to get involved in the project, according to Slash Film.
When it seems like all hope is lost, new "Justice League Dark" rumors emerge suggesting that the studios have already short-listed potential directors for the film.
According to the "Justice League Dark" rumor, which came from JoBlo, who is mostly reliable with these kinds of news, Fede Alvarez ("Evil Dead" remake) and Aharon Keshales and Navot Papushado ("Big Bad Wolves"), are currently eyed by studio execs. This reportedly gives fans an idea of what kind of approach Warner Bros. want to take for the supernatural comic book adaptation. All three directors' styles are geared towards the darker, horror genre.
However, like anything else on the internet, this recent "Justice League Dark" rumor should be taken with a grain of salt. In addition, the directors mentioned above are just part of a shortlist, which means it's possible that other directors could still helm the film.
Currently, Alvarez is in post-production with "A Man in the Dark." As for Keshales & Papushado, they're not working on anything now. It is still possible that either of the two choices would take on the project.
In the comic, "Justice League Dark" is a group of superheroes who saves the DC Universe from supernatural dilemmas. They're more like anti-heroes in the range of "Suicide Squad," as opposed to the more famous "Justice League."
According to Collider, since Producer Charles Roven has stated before that "all of the studio's comic book movies will be PG-13," "Justice League Dark" might leave its director little space for freedom when it comes to making it "dark" or violent.
In addition to the directors, the latest "Justice League Dark" rumors, this one coming in yesterday, suggested that Warner Bros. want to kick off shooting as soon as possible. A list of potential cast has reportedly been released, including Colin Farrell as Constantine, Ewan McGregor as Jason Blood/The Demon, Ron Perlman for Swamp Thing, Monica Bellucci as Madame Xanadu and Ben Mendelsohn as Anton Arcane, an antagonist. For Deadman, it was rumored that Warner Bros. wants a comedic actor. As for the magician Zatanna, they reportedly wanted an unknown up-and-comer.
Then again, all reports are "Justice League Dark" rumors at this point. With the film still in the early stages of development, anything could happen. In the meantime, the shooting for "Justice League Dark" is expected to take place early 2016, if, again, rumors prove to be true.
