Traditions are one of the vital parts in every holiday and special occasions as it is the core foundation where it's built. And apparently, a lot of people will agree to the notion that food or meals are the center of the majority of these traditions.
Indeed, through our unique eating habits, it definitely reflects our various cultural traditions that has made the Region the melting pot, as the holiday approaches the horizon. Just like the holiday food customs across Northwest Indiana was speculated to have originated from either neighboring immigrant communities or the region's seasonal specialties, which are found to be distinct as the our diverse, multiethnic heritage.
Despite these differences, there is one thing in common with our various traditions and meat is always the centerpiece of every holiday meal across the globe.
Pork Loins Wear the Crown
As stated by Jim Drewenski, manager of Rob's Meat Chop & Deli in Dyer, for those who are looking for a substitute to beef, crown pork loin roasts are an excellent choice. He adds that they get their pork stocks from the farms of Indiana, with the belief that local markets would actually allow them to be more selective about the cuts they choose.
Ed Welch, owner of Welch's Stop and Shop, said that they provide options for their customers whether they prefer homemade bread stuffing or Polish sausage. Having said that, Welch's Stop and Shop customers can also get their pork loin roasts either already stuffed or oven-ready. In this way, they are able to help their customers to look for something different this time.
Meanwhile, Mike Magura, owner of Beef Mart of Valparaiso, adds that on pork crown roasts, "Booties" can also be a popular choice.
As pork is known to be an excellent choice for the grill, Welch says that loin roasts and chops would be a perfect match for the holiday griller.
