A second season for the teen sitcom, "Sam & Cat," could be on hold after star Jennette McCurdy landed in hot water over a nude selfie.
According to E! News, McCurdy vented her frustration about Nickelodeon. The actress was missing from the network's Kids' Choice Awards on Saturday. She later blamed her absence on "unfair treatment" by the kids' channel and added that she was put in an "uncomfortable, compromising, unfair situation."
The 21-year-old country pop artist took to her Twitter to defend her case.
"A lot of you guys are asking why I didn't attend the KCAs," McCurdy wrote in a post. "I wish I could explain everything as thoroughly as I would like to, but unfortunately a simpler explanation is all I can write. I was put in an uncomfortable, compromising, unfair situation (many of you have guessed what it is) and I had to look out for me. I chose to not go because sticking up for what is right and what is fair is what my mom taught me is ALWAYS the most important thing. I want to thank those of you who have reached out with kind words of support, McCurdians and Arianators alike. No matter who or what you support, I believe in supporting fairness first. If you have done that, thank you."
To fans that misread McCurdy's message, she quickly tweeted: "My previous tweet has nothing to do with pics leaked.oh you guys lol." Followed by "It has to do with how nickelodeon treated me. That's all. Thanks for the love."
Since McCurdy's racy pictures became public, production on the kids' comedy has been postponed and despite its popularity, the show has yet to be renewed for a second season. In a statement to E! News, Nickelodeon said both cast and crew are "understandably tired" after a long season.
A statement from Nickelodeon reads: "We are wrapping up what was an unusually long production cycle of 'Sam & Cat,' and everyone is understandably tired. We are going into our production hiatus next week which will give everyone on the show a much needed rest."
The New York Daily News also reported that McCurdy is feuding with co-star Ariana Grande and others at the Nickelodeon station. TMZ reported that Grande reportedly makes more money than McCurdy, who has been trying to renegotiate her deal.
After four episodes of "Sam & Cat" Nickelodeon ordered an extra 40 episodes. The show brings in more than 4 million viewers.
