'Once Upon A Time' News Update: Creators Making Summer Camp Horror TV Series for ABC

After a long time of writing about princesses, witches, evil queens and magic, the creators of Once Upon A Time switched gears and will be launching a horror television series for ABC Family.

Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz have recently received a series order for a new project called Dead of Summer and will be aired through ABC Family. Also, joining the league will be Once Upon A Time's own writer Ian Goldberg as the showrunner for the upcoming project.

Karey Burke, executive president of programming for ABC Family is excited about the new venture. Dead Summer will focus more on what happens when in summer camp - most likely a very creepy one when fog rolls in but looks eerily normal during the day. "The horror genre is new for us," Burke said as ABC Family caters more towards drama, home and family shows. He's thrilled to have Kitsis, Horowitz and Goldberg on board to share their talents to the network.

The pitch for the show is set in the late 1980s. Ready for summer, school is out and everybody is bent on spending time under the sun. That means the camp counselors at Camp Clearwater in a stereotypical Midwestern summer camp. But there's a dark secret hidden beneath the camp's interiors. An ancient mythological air will begin to seep into the camp and it's set on kill mode. Expect the coming-of-age series to be scary with summer flings and first times, showing both the dark and light of summer.

Dead of Summer will be ABC Family's (soon to be known as Freeform) first ever horror television series.

Don't worry Once Upon A Time fans, your enchanted show series will remain untouched. The gang just decided to have a little scary fun during their spare time.

In the future, ABC Family will be rebranded as Freeform in January 2016, as posted from EW.
