R. Kelly had the honor of singing the “Star Spangled Banner” at the Brooklyn Nets game on Tuesday, November 17. Apparently R. Kelly had a little down time to kill before he fulfilled his National Anthem singing duties at the Barclays Center for the Brooklyn Nets vs. Atlanta Hawks game.
Instead of sitting around twiddling his thumbs, he got in some practice time with Nets small forward Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, and blew the whole team out of the water with his incredible basketball skills!
Not only did he find a way to get in on the pregame shootaround action, but he scored a viral video while he was at it. The controversial singer lined up a three-pointer and landed it like it was nothing,
As it turns out, R. Kelly has some range on his jumper. While donning some aviators and chomping on a cigar, the three-time Grammy winner casually sank a corner trey over the outstretched arms of Nets rookie Rondae Hollis-Jefferson.
The video didn't quite make it to YouTube as R. Kelly joked, but at least it made it to Twitter.
Although R. Kelly is not signing up a deal with the Nets but his basketball prowess shouldn't come as a surprise. After all, the singer famously enjoyed a three-year professional career as a shooting guard with the USBL's Atlantic City Seagulls from 1997-99.
The singer recently made headlines for being a bonafide hero, saving the home of his former high school music teacher, 87-year-old Lena McLin. Amazing. Thinking quickly, R. Kelly staged a benefit concert in his hometown of Chicago on October 14, 2015 to raise the funds to help her keep her house. After all, Lena has always believed in him!
“On the first day I met her, Ms. McLin told me, ‘You’re going to be one of the greatest singers, songwriters and performers of all time.’ I thought the lady was crazy,” R. Kelly told the Chicago Sun Times. He went on to win three Grammy awards, and become one of the most successful artists in the world. To him, it was only right that he pay Lena back.
Now that he's done showing off his basketball and heroic abilities, however, it's time for R. Kelly to go back to doing what he does best: making music.
