"Good Morning America" is saying goodbye to co-anchor Josh Elliot, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
After almost three years on the ABC network, Elliot is leaving to join NBC Sports. The 42-year-old television journalist's contract expires at the end of the month. Elliot has reportedly has a big role on all of the NBC Sports franchises, including covering the Olympics, Triple Crown and Sunday Night Football.
The Hollywood reporter noted that Elliot will not replace any of the network's current on-air analysts and talent. ABC News president Ben Sherwood revealed that negotiations with Elliot simply broke down.
"As many of you know, we have been negotiating with Josh these past several months," Sherwood wrote. "In good faith, we worked hard to close a significant gap between our generous offer and his expectations. In the end, Josh felt he deserved a different deal and so he chose a new path."
Elliot joined "Good Morning America" in 2011 after previous news anchor Juju Chang left the program in May that same year. In the past few months, Elliott had been talking with ABC executives about his salary. He was offered between $4 and $5 million, a raise from the $800,000 he was making.
THR noted that Elliot, alongside Lara Spencer, Robin Roberts and George Stephanopoulos helped to increase the Today show's 16-year morning news streak. Replacing the veteran news anchor will be Amy Robach, who sat in as co-anchor while Robin Roberts recovered from her bone marrow transplant.
"We always knew Amy was special and we have all been especially inspired to watch her battle breast cancer with grace and determination," Sherwood added. ".Indeed, she thrilled us with two weeks of memorable dispatches from Sochi anchoring our Olympic coverage ... all between chemo treatments."
