Snoop Dogg just came out with a line of pot products that looks more like artisan chocolate than weed inside. Leafs by Snoop is a premium goodie bag of the best weed stuff you can get. Included are nugs of bud, extracts, and lots of edibles in the form of chocolates and candies. Take a look here.
The packaging is made care of Emily Oberman, a partner at Pentagram and the graphic designer trusted by Saturday Night Live and The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
Oberman shared that Snoop, together with his Stampede Management, wanted to do away with the usual branding and packaging that has come to define weed products. It has been proven that there is no single type of stoner and the glass pipes and bongs, cartoon characters, etc. make it look like these products (like rolling paper) are really for some teenager getting stoned to Sublime, as Wired put it.
Oberman's designs are awesome. The gilded marquee is a stylized pot leaf that is both modern and fresh. The “Flower” line of products also come in white boxes and pastel accents. The chocolate bars use wrappers that have zoomed-in nature photographs.
The minimalist look also exudes sophistication and markets itself as a high-end product. Oberman said in a statement, “It’s like working at the end of Prohibition. Laws change from week to week, and affect what you can do. It’s incredibly exciting, but it’s also difficult, so we had to keep it simple.”
By law, any marijuana product must be opaque and child-proof. They cannot be labeled as candy either. Oberman's preferred look for the Leafs by Snoop products are, therefore, both visually appealing and conform to regulations as well.
The boxes also have some surprises inside. A bandana-paisley print and photos of palm trees can be seen and, as Oberman described it, are “colorful California cool.” Snoop's weed-related lyrics are also scrawled inside using his own handwriting.
