We're just one month away from the official release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. With the big day nearing, the internet has been overflowing with details about the highly anticipated film.
The latest scoop comes from Slashfilm, which has just revealed the film's official runtime - 135 minutes. Here's the official announcement from Entertainment Weekly.
"The final edit of Star Wars: The Force Awakens is complete and has a running time of 2 hours and 15 minutes. Picture was locked on November 3rd 2015 at midnight, but JJ Abrams and crew will be spending the next few weeks finalizing the film's visual effects, sound effects and a final scoring session with composer John Williams."
2 hour and 15 minutes puts the Force Awakens in the middle of the pack as far as length goes. The original trilogy are the shortest of the group with Episode IV: A New Hope at 124 minutes, Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back at 124 minutes, and Episode VI: Return of The Jedi at 131 minutes.
For the prequels, Episode II: Attack of The Clones is the lengthiest of the three at 142 minutes, Episode III: Revenge of the Sith is next at 140 minutes, and Episode I: The Phantom Menace coming in 3rd at 133 minutes.
The runtime covers everything from the iconic opening crawl to the rumored post-credit sequence that will tease the upcoming spin-off, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Is 135 minutes enough time to reintroduce the universe and set-up all the new characters? We'll have to wait and see.
Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens hits theaters on December 18th, 2015, followed by Rogue One: A Star Wars Story on December 16th, 2016. Star Wars: Episode 8 is also confirmed for May 26th, 2017.
