Pregnancy might me exciting to many. But in order for one woman to enjoy the fullness of joy that comes after a child is born, she has to experience the pain and unavoidable prenatal symptoms that comes before that. Though medicines can ease their discomfort, many women are turning to another source of remedy- essential oils.
According to International Organization for Standardization (ISO), essential oils are results of a process called distillation. Distillation process may be done in many ways. Some of these include but are not limited to distillation with water or by dry distillation. Essential oil is not only good for the skin, which is one of the most common uses of it but is also beneficial for aiding expectant mothers as they experience some of these pregnancy sicknesses.
Cold and flu
Women's immune system is weaker during pregnancy which causes her to experience some illnesses such as cold and flu. Taking a cup of water with lemon essential is vital to increase the body's ph level. Stephanie Fritz, licensed and certified professional midwife in Sierra Vista, Ariz. and author of "Essential Oils for Pregnancy, Birth & Babies stated, "There's a lot going on in your body and your liver has to process everything. It is doing a happy dance when you give it any sort of citrus oils."
She also suggested, "You can also massage lemon onto the soles of your feet. Since the bottoms of your feet have the largest pores and the most pores per square inch, the oil will be absorbed into your body within just 30 seconds."
Morning Sickness
Nausea is the most common pregnancy symptom. The American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists suggested pregnant women to take 250 mg of ginger every day and night. Ginger essential oils is also helpful to prevent throwing up.
Swollen ankles
Carrying a baby inside a woman's tummy for nine months may result to stretched muscles and swollen body parts. Coconut, cypress and lavender oil were all proven good for massaging the swollen ankles and can also help you relax.
Take heed of a precaution before taking essential oils though. Oils are not regulated by FDA as of the moment. It's best to still consult your doctors before you turn to them. Some oils, like "moving oils" can be the culprit of pre-term labor and contractions. Be sure to have a chat with someone who is familiar with them (e.g., a naturopath or midwife).
