Food News Bites You Might Have Missed

HOT DOGS ARE SAID TO BE MADE OF PEOPLE.

People got a bit worried when a document released by a consumer-marketing arm of Clear Labs on October 17 stated that, traces of human DNA were found in 2 percent of the products they sampled. Thankfully, there's no evidence that further confirms the reports. "It's more a matter of hygiene in food production. The tiniest particles of hair, nails and skin could show up in these tests." So, ladies and gentlemen, hotdogs are not made of human.

APP THAT LETS YOU BUY CHEAP FOOD.

FoodCircles is an application that allows you to get hold of cheap appetizers and other products around at Seattle's and Grand Rapids' restaurants. The twist? All the money is used to feed local hungry people. A statement published in their website reads: "So we exist to be a simple way to help one child who does know what it's like to go days without eating properly. Use the site and apps to make dinner plans, buy a dish for $1 (or more), and give 100% of that purchase to feed hungry children. The site can help you make a decision and purchase within 60 seconds."

ON THE OTHER HAND, THERE ARE SO MANY NEW SEATTLE RESTAURANTS TO TRY!

These include the following:

  • GENERAL PORPOISE DOUGHNUTS on Capitol Hill (completing Renee Erickson's new trio with cream-filled beauties plus sparkling wine, "of course")
  • CULTURE CLUB CHEESE BAR on Capitol Hill (beer and wine and all things cheese, glorious cheese, from Sheri LaVigne of the great Calf & Kid);
  • JARRBAR in Pike Place Market (a lovely-looking tiny Spanish-style spot with a snacks menu by Zoi Antonitsas)
  • NOBLE BARTON in White Center (a family-friendly pub from the Tin Hat/Jules Maes people)
  • PIKE'S PIT BAR-B-QUE in Pike Place Market (sorta-kinda another Pecos Pit)
  • TR3S COCINA/CANTINA in Belltown (upscale Mexican from the owners of the Belltown Pub).
  • RAMEN YOSHI in Bellevue (from the owners of various ramen places in Japan)
  • BIG MARIO'S pizza in lower Queen Anne (the second edition of the Capitol Hill dive)
