After the success of The Lego Movie in 2014, the Warner Bros has chosen Mariah Carey to join the voice cast of the upcoming The Lego Batman Movie.
Hollywood Reporter revealed that the multi-awarded singer has signed up for the role of Gotham City's mayor. Gotham City is a crime-infested city. Contrary to reports released by Deadline, Carey will not be voicing the character Commissioner Gordon. No reports have been released as to who will voice the Commissioner.
She will be joined by Ralph Fiennes (Alfred), Rosario Dawson (Batgirl), Michael Cera (Robin), Will Arnett, and Zach Galifianakis (Joker).
Chris McKay will be directing the spinoff while the script is written by Seth Grahame-Smith, an author-screenwriter. Other people behind the movie are Dan Lin and Roy Lee who will service as the producers together with Lego Movie director-screenwriters Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.
The movie is set to be released on February 2017.
Carey has been into several films in the past with her first screen appearance as an opera singer in the 1999 Chris O'Donnell romcom entitled The Bachelor. She became more famous in the movie industry with her role in the 2001 musical Glitter where she played the role of an aspiring singer. She also appeared in the 2009 movie entitled Precious where she played as Ms. Weiss, a social worker. Her latest appearance was in 2013, in Lee Daniels' The Butler.
Carey also has aligned herself earlier this year to a Christmas themed movie pitch, which will be a natural role for her. The said movie is preemptively bought by New Line from RatPac Entertainment, writers David Diamond and David Weissman and producer Jon Shestack.
The 47-year-old Carey is behind the 1994 successful song "All I Want for Christmas Is You", which sold more than 14 million copies globally. It is considered as the biggest holiday perennial in recent memory and the biggest international hit of Carey's career.
