Pamela Anderson is Cured From Hepatitis C; Why is The Medication So Expensive?

News broke out that Pamela Anderson is cured from Hepatitis C in which she got from sharing tattoo needles from her ex-boyfriend Tommy Lee. She may have been cured but it does come with a hefty price. As per the Huffington Post, Hepatitis C affected almost three million Americans, and most of them are unaware that they are infected with the illness.

It is indeed lethal as it can potentially boil down to liver cancer if not treated. There may be a cure, but one of the well- known block buster drug 'Solvadi' cost around $1,000 per pill. It needs to be taken daily, so the 12 weeks regimen can cost up to $84,000.

The cure may be a turning point for hepatitis c patients but why is it so expensive? As per the website, one of the reasons on why it is of high value is that the research and development of the drug came in with high standards which resulted to a huge amount of cash being put in for it to be accomplished.

As per People, Pamela Anderson then openly shared her nude photo on Instagram publicly announcing that she is cured from hepatitis C. she then captioned the photo:

"I am CURED!!! - I just found out #nomorehepc #thankyou #blessing #family #prayer #live," Anderson, 48, wrote. "I pray anyone living with Hep C can qualify or afford treatment. It will be more available soon. I know treatment is hard to get still...#dontlosehope."

She may have been cured but she openly shared that the disease did bring down her self esteem and got her a bit down.

"I think it really worked on my self esteem, even though I may have looked confident on the outside, I think it really was a dark cloud that lingered over me."

She then shared how blessed she was for not having any complications in relation to her hepatitis.

"I don't have any liver damage and I don't have any side effects, I'm living my life the way I want to but it could have eventually have caused me some problems and so it was a real blessing that I was able to get the medicine."
