Gone are the days when weight loss companies are prohibited from advertising their products targeting obesity. The Guardian wrote that there are now some new rules that would allow companies to address their concerns to their target market.
One of the famous companies banned from doing so was Weight Watchers and the rationale behind it is that people might sign up to programs when what they actually need is a medical treatment.
In the UK, the Committee of Advertising Practice has lifted such rules to free companies in hopes that this might even help solve the issue of obesity in the country.
The person behind creating rules in this department has spoken saying, "In light of the fact that some of these programs have become recognized as safe and effective ways for people to lose weight, CAP considers it is disproportionate to prohibit them from advertising their services to people who are obese."
"This rule change provides those who want help in losing weight, and who might benefit from a lifestyle weight loss program, with more information, choice and support," the CAP head continued.
But before these companies get too excited and started planning for their next move in their business, they should pause for a moment to take a look some of the criteria that the agency still needs them to follow and meet.
It all figures why they need to still be a little strict on this because some people might just get into weight loss programs that are not for their current state of health. Many who are desperate to lose weight could just jump into one program without even thinking or studying if it is something that is right for them. The new rules would bring enough knowledge and balance to both parties.
