Avril Lavigne Recovering from Lyme Disease: "I Thought I was Dying"

Looks like Canadian-French pop-rock star Avril Lavigne will keep singing Keep Holding On until she sings When You're Gone to Lyme disease.

The 31-year-old singer has recently revealed that she is successfully recovering from the debilitating disease. She was diagnosed with Lyme disease in 2014 after unknowingly being bitten by a tick.

Earlier in June this year, Lavigne shared to Good Morning America that she struggled to get diagnosed because doctors at the outset suspected she was just suffering from chronic fatigue syndrome or depression because of her unhappy marriage with her second husband, Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger.

Lyme disease is the fasting growing epidemic in North America as it is spread by infected tics. Fatigue and rashes are the common symptoms that can be treated with antibiotics.

Avril first confirmed she had the disease while celebrating her 30th birthday in Las Vegas. She knew there was something wrong when she could barely eat and stand. She was bedridden for five months and thought she was dying. "It felt like having all your life sucked out of you," she described.

But on Wednesday, Nov. 11, Avril happily announced the good news that her condition is getting better. She posted a picture of her arm being checked by a health professional on Instagram, captioned: "I'm coming out on the other side batches!!! #Fighter #F**kLymeDisease (sic)."

She again posted another photography of her lying on her side and smiling at the camera wih the caption: "FIGHT and CONQUER!!!!!!! #F**kLymeDisease (sic)."

Lyme Disease has been an important issue that has become personal to Lavigne ever since she has been coming out of the darkest days of her health struggle. She has started a 5-week campaign, Prizeo campaign, that raises funds for children and teens suffering from Lyme. The campaign has already raised $61,007 and one lucky fan -to be announced later this week-will have the opportunity to hang out with Lavigne and get a speaking role in her new animated film Charming.
