Christie Brinkley Opens Up About Ex-Husband Billy Joel and New Boyfriend John Mellencamp

Brinkley gained worldwide fame beginning in the late 1970s with three consecutive Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue covers through 1981.

On the Wendy Williams Show, the supermodel Christie Brinkley appeared to promote her new book, Timeless Beauty and to talk about her personal life.

Brinkley has been married four times, most notably to musician Billy Joel, several of whose music videos she appeared in.

"Well, I've had a lot of practice. You know what it was, we had Alexa [Ray Joel] together and we knew that was going to bind us together for life so we wanted to make our divorce work," she explained. "Of course as you're going through it, you know, you can get a little bit raw, but you cannot find him saying a bad word about me or me saying a bad word about him, no matter what happens."

Her fourth marriage, to architect Peter Cook, ended in a much-publicized 2008 divorce.

And now the actress is dating John Mellencamp, a musician, singer-songwriter, painter, and actor.

He is known for his catchy, populist brand of heartland rock, which emphasizes traditional instrumentation.

"I'm just having fun and, you know, we'll see," Brinkley said of her new relationship. "Yeah, I mean we're dating and you know, having a good time. You've been subjected to my private life enough so I'm just trying to keep my private life private."

Mellencamp used to be married to former model Elaine Irwin on September 5, 1992. On December 30, 2010, Mellencamp announced that he and Irwin had separated after 18 years of marriage.

After his divorce from Irwin, Mellencamp began dating actress Meg Ryan.

It was reported Mellencamp and Ryan broke up in the summer of 2014 after dating for over three years.

In October 2014, it was revealed that Mellencamp and Ryan were back together, however, in the summer of 2015, it was reported they broke up again.

Mellencamp has five children from his three marriages: Daughter Michelle from his marriage to Esterline; daughters Teddi Jo and Justice from his marriage to Granucci; and sons Hud and Speck from his marriage to Irwin.

Brinkley supports animal rights, most notably through the organization PETA, having previously spoken out against the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus.

She became a vegetarian when she was 13 years old and then got her entire family to become vegetarians.
