Amanda Bynes Pleads No Contest in 2012 DUI Case and Avoids Jail Time

It's a good deal for Amanda Bynes!

The former teen star has entered a no contest for a lesser offense as part of a plea deal in order to get her driving under the influence case dropped, according to Reuters. As a result of the plea deal related to her April 2012 arrest, Bynes will not have to serve any jail time.

Judge Edward Moreton sentenced the 27-year-old actress to three years probation. Bynes must also complete a three-month alcohol education program as part of the plea deal.

The peal deal is related to her April 6, 2012 accident, in which the actress drove her BMW into the back a sheriff's patrol car in West Hollywood. The incident caused minor paint damage to both vehicles.

Bynes, who starred in her own Nickelodeon sketch comedy TV series "The Amanda Show" at age 13, was booked for suspicion of DUI after refusing to take a sobriety test and released on bail later that day.

After her DUI charge, Bynes had several other run-ins with the law, including being accused of two hit-and-runs, which were compounded by her driving on a suspended license. She was also accused of starting a small fire in front of a home in the Los Angeles suburb of Thousand Oaks, and of dropping a bong out of the window of her high-rise NYC apartment.

On Jan. 10, her lawyer accepted a deal in which the charges for marijuana possession and reckless endangerment in New York City will be dismissed if she stays out of trouble for six months.

The "What I Like About You" actress spent six months between the hospital and rehab last year, being treated for substance abuse and unspecified mental issues. She was released last December, after six months of treatment.

CNN reported that the actress has been taking classes at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Orange County and has been spending lots of time reconnecting with her mom Lynn and dad Rick.
