Yaaas! Mx., Bestie, and Fleek Are Now Official Words Says Dictionary.com

Yaaaas! The feels! You can now check the dictionary when a friend posts slang TBH you do not understand. The leading online and mobile resource for everything word related, Dictionary.com, just added some new words and definitions to its dictionary.

More than 150 new words were introduced to its website-mostly slang millennial-approved words and phrases thrown out around social media sites. These updates and revisions just show how social media and digital culture, above all, affect our communication and fast, ever-evolving language.

Liz McMillan, CEO of Dictionary.com, related that they learn from over 5.5 billion words looked up by their users annually. Dictionary.com adds the words that are commonly and widely used. Lexicographers review and discover words in social media, academic journals, pop culture sources and user suggestions.

The following are some of the recently added and popular words on Dictionary.com:

Yaaaas - Slang, strong exclamation of the word "yes". It got to the limelight after there was a viral video of someone yelling this at Lady Gaga, and then a song with these words from Nicki Minaj.

Matchy-matchy - A term usually used to describe an outfit having colors and patterns that bring into line too closely

Kk - Informal word used in texting which means OK

IRL - Informal word used in texting which means "in real life"

TBH - Informal word used in texting which means "to be honest"

Fleek - Slang word which means on point, flawlessly styled or well-polished. The word got popular in 2014 because of a six-second Vine video from a girl named Peaches Monroe who said her eyebrows were "on fleek" for appearing in a number of blogs and media.

Mx. - This is a title of respect put before a person's name with any or no specific gender identity. This is because of the increased media attention to the transgender community.

Sapiosexual - Someone who is sexually attractive to an intelligent person.

Bestie - A person's best friend

Drunk text - A text message sent by someone intoxicated

Facepalm - An interjection expressing embarrassment, frustration, or disbelief
