Man Celebrating 96th Birthday Discovers Dead Rat Tail in Cake (VIDEO)

A man celebrating his 96th birthday was given quite the surprise when cutting into his cake.

According to ABC News, all Joseph Valente wanted for his birthday was a slice of his favorite German apple ring cake from King Kullen grocery store in Commack, New York. Yet after eating the cake, the man began complaining about stomach pains and diarrhea, allegedly due to biting into a dead rat.

Neil Gold, Vallenti's nephew, told ABC News that after Valente downed a spoonful of cake on Thursday, be began to complain, stating that the cake did not "taste right."

After investigating the store-baked cake, Gold said he found a five-inch-long gray, stringy rodent tail bleeding into the cake. Gold also noticed a black-gray mold embedded in the yellow cake.

"We saw it was coming from the bottom. We flipped it over and seemed to be a rat's tail," Gold said, adding that he could also see what appeared to be the head of a rat.

Ed Yule, Gold's lawyer, believes that the cake had been "tampered with," and is asking the New York Department of Agriculture and Markets to investigate the situation.

"I personally am of the opinion that this cake was tampered with," Yule said. "What's King Kullen have to say about this?"

King Kullen said in a statement that its store has been selling fresh baked goods for more than 30 years and has never had a rodent found in any of their cakes. The supermarket's website boasts the German apple ring cake is "a customer favorite."

"We took immediate steps as a precautionary measure," the company said in a statement. "Product has been removed from the bakery and the premises have undergone a thorough inspection. There are no known safety or rodent issues in this bakery department and it is in good standing with all Department of Agriculture inspections."

ABC News reported that Gold's Uncle was not hospitalized but still is in stock over the incident.
