Warning: This story can be disturbing to most people. An unidentified man in Mexico was eating at a local McDonald's and bit into a burger-only to spit out a mangled rat's head.
Images have been popping up online as the customer apparently went to social media to report the disgusting find. See a NSFW image here. It quickly went viral and was picked up by news outlets from the world over.
The restaurant is located in Tlalnepantla de Baz in the northern outskirts of Mexico City. It was quickly shut down by authorities and was being cleared of vermin. An investigation is also pending on how a rat, dead or alive, made its way to the burger, Inquisitr reported.
McDonald's authorities, however, insist that the images are the product of an extortionist. Felix Ramirez, a spokesman for the fast food chain, told newspaper El Universal that he is confident that story will turn out to be untrue. He further elaborated and said that it is impossible for a rat's head to be in their burgers.
He said, "We are looking into the matter to see what happened, it has to be something they planted there, it's totally impossible that this would happen in one of our restaurants."
Ramirez also said that the man who reported the find also attempted to get money from the branch manager in exchange for not going public with the rat burger. He then left and went to local authorities which prompted the police investigation.
McDonald's has been in the global spotlight because of a string of incidents involving its burgers. Just last week, a girl from the UK bit into a burger which had, of all things, a dead frog in it, according to The Daily Star.
The girl's father said that McDonald's was not apologetic and instead offered a refund. McDonald's has also said that it was "extremely unlikely" for the frog to have come from their kitchens.
