‘Walking Dead’ Season 6 Casts ‘Watchmen’ Actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan For TV Comeback, Playing Comic Book Villain Negan

Jeffrey Dean Morgan jumped to superstardom after playing Katharine Heigl's love interest Danny in the first season of "Grey's Anatomy," later being part of the live-action adaptation of Alan Moore's cult comic book "Watchmen" as The Comedian - now, he's back on television with a new graphic novel villain, as he's cast in the "Walking Dead" season 6.

Morgan has kept around superhero and science fiction material for a while, also having a recurrent role in "Supernatural" as John Winchester, the father of the show's two protagonists, and now he'll be playing Negan in the "Walking Dead" season 6, one of the most prominent villains from the original comic.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, it is thought that Morgan's debut in the role will come in the "Walking Dead" season 6 finale, which will be directed by Greg Nicotero, and if the story translates faithfully to the screen, it will see the "P.S. I Love You" star leading a group called The Saviors that subjugates other communities.

Ahead of Morgan's "Walking Dead" season 6 appearance, The Wrap reports that, in the comic books, Negan shows up with a bang after murdering Glenn with a baseball bat wrapped in barbed wire (which he calls "Lucille," as creepy as that may sound), which has prompted the resurgence of the theory that Glenn continues to be alive - if only to end up facing Negan face to face later on.

According to Comic Book, the Lucille bat was on display two years later at the 10th anniversary party for the graphic novels the "Walkng Dead" season 6 is based on, so it was then established that the people at AMC had already built the prop, so fans were waiting for the character to be officially announced.

Morgan will appear next year on yet another story from comic books, as he's set to play Ben Affleck's father (assumedly via flashbacks) in "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice"), so no doubt the 49 year-old star's going to change the way things happen in the "Walking Dead" season 6!
