Passion Pit's Michael Angelakos Speaks About His Sexuality: Is He Out of the Closet?

Passion Pit's Michael Angelakos, lead vocals and keyboards in an American indietronica band from Massachusetts, announced in a Monday podcast interview with Brett Easton Ellis his sexuality to the world. Is he gay?

The answer is yes. After experiencing difficult years struggling with bipolar disorder and his recent divorce with New York stylist Kristy Mucci, he kept the fact to himself. Now, in a recent podcast interview, he says "... I just decided it might be best to talk about it here."

Regarding his sexuality, he never asked for help or talked to anyone about it. "I lived in such a straight group of people" Angelakos said. It's not because no one would understand, he just felt it wasn't the time.

He explained that he told very few people in his personal life about his sexuality because he didn't know how to talk about it. Eventually, he came to a conclusion that he just needed to talk to people and tell them he is gay and not feel threatened.

He continued to tell Easton that it was always in his head. "It's always been about putting it off in my head" Angelakos said. In his younger days, it was easier to talk about girls and it was also easier to write about it in his songs. He spoke at length about his marriage and how he began to understand his sexuality in the process. He was confused and juggling between homosexuality and heterosexuality. He tells Easton while discussing his marriage with Kristy Mucci that he didn't know what's happening and that his fallback would be his wife at the time - someone familiar and a comfort that he knows. Later on, his wife found out he was bisexual. He loved her so much that it was painful for him. But ultimately, they decided to separate.
