A Taco Bell executive who recently got fired after beating up an Uber driver is now making a tearful, public apology for his actions caught on video. Meanwhile, the Uber driver who is suing the man, his former passenger, according to Food Beast.
The name of the former Taco Bell senior marketing executive is Benjamin Golden. This week, Golden issued the public apology video, shown below.
The 32-year-old is now facing legal action not only from Uber driver Edward Caban, but also from the district attorney of Orange County.
In the former Taco Bell exec's public apology video, he is taking full responsibility for his actions last Friday in Costa Mesa, California, while claiming that he was blacked out the entire time, according to CBS.
"It's not me in the video, it's not me. It was hard to watch and I'm ashamed," Golden said in the video. "So the next day, I got out of jail and I didn't know what happened until I saw this video. My heart sank."
The former Taco Bell exec added in his apology video that he couldn't recall the number of drinks he had.
"I'm not one to get in fights. I think a lot of people that I know are in shock by what they saw," he said.
The week after the incident and after the video went viral, Golden was arrested and fired from his job. He is currently seeking help from a counsellor.
Despite the former Taco Bell exec's apology video, he still faces four misdemeanor charges including assault and battery. If convicted, he might face one year in prison, or a fine worth $10,000. Golden reportedly plead guilty to a DUI charge in Kentucky three years ago despite claims that he has no drinking problem.
As for Caban, according to CNN, he has stopped being an Uber driver. He is currently suing Golden a minimum $25,000 for assault and intentional infliction of emotional distress. He is also receiving counseling. He has since moved to California to remain closer to his family, said Rivers J. Morrel III, his attorney.
Following the former Taco Bell exec's apology, Caban still refused to meet him, according to Next Shark.
"He says it's not him, but that's the only him I know. That wasn't him, but it was him who had the first drink. It was him who made the decision to go out that night, and in the end, it was him who made the decision to beat me," said Caban.
Golden's arraignment is set on November 17.
