Chipotle Outbreak: Second Lawsuit Over E. Coli Scare In Washington And Oregon, Chipotle’s Third Outbreak In 2015

It's been a tough year for Chipotle Mexican Grill when it comes to food safety, having gone through a total of three Chipotle outbreaks in the months since 2015 began, the most recent one being of E. coli between Oregon and Washington State - and they've got a third lawsuit on the way because of this last one.

Days after a woman filed a suit in Washington after having become sick from eating at the fast casual eatery weeks back, now a second woman in Seattle (under the name of Jessica Ellis) and a man from Oregon (Chris Collins) have filed federal complaints regarding the Chipotle outbreak.

According to the Associated Press (through Syracuse.com), 28 year-old Ellis says in her own claim that she had a chicken burrito in Burlington last October 22 and began to experience symptoms of the Chipotle outbreak of E. coli at work, six days later on October 28, such as gas, bloating, sharp pains and diarrhea, ultimately going to the Skagit Regional Urgent Care Clinic's emergency room.

On his own Chipotle outbreak lawsuit, 32 year-old Collins claims he ate a chicken bowl with brown rice, black beans, tomato salsa, cheese and guacamole on the side, then missing nearly two weeks of work due to E. coli.

Financial Spots reports that there are now eight of the chain's restaurants tied to this Chipotle outbreak, though the company has closed all 43 restaurants in the area to prevent any possible damages, and while none of the infected patients have gone through complications so far, anyone with bloody diarrhea should go see a doctor.

Ledger Gazette reports that the agent causing the E. coli outbreak has already been identified, though considering that there are more than 1,900 Chipotle restaurants, the scare is completely understandable.

In all, this is the third Chipotle outbreak this year, with some linking it to the strategy of eliminating the cooking process in some food preparations.
