A "Jurassic World" trilogy has been confirmed. This isn't really surprising news since the summer box office became the third highest-grossing movie of all time after it earned $1.6 billion. What's surprising is that Colin Trevorrow and Steven Spielberg kept this from Universal Pictures until now.
In a roundtable conducted by The Hollywood Reporter, Universal Pictures head honcho Donna Langley revealed she had no idea that Spielberg and Trevorrow will be making a "Jurassic World" trilogy.
"There's no reason why we should [have trouble]. Colin Trevorrow is busy working on an outline. He's been working with Steven [Spielberg]. And they have an idea for the next two movies actually. It was designed as a trilogy, unbeknown to us. It's a happy surprise," Langley said.
Now that that's out in the open, the question now is what will "Jurassic World" trilogy have in store for audiences?
According to Slash Film, Trevorrow has confirmed he will not be returning to the "Jurassic World" sequel to direct it since he's busy with "Star Wars: Episode IX," but he will reportedly remain behind-the-scenes together with co-writer, Derek Connolly.
Another sure thing is that the screenplay Trevorrow has in mind will not be in the island theme parks anymore.
"It's almost like InGen is Mac, but what if PC gets their hands on it? What if there are 15 different entities around the world who can make a dinosaur?' And Dr Wu says in the film, when he's warning Dr Masrani, 'We're not always going to be the only ones who can make a dinosaur,'" Trevorrow explained.
"I think that's an interesting idea that even if we don't explore fully in this film, there is room for this universe to expand. I shouldn't use the word universe, because people will think we're making a Jurassic World universe - we're not," he added.
It has also been announced that Universal is in search of a new filmmaker for the next "Jurassic World."
Another fact that we know, Bryce Dallas Howard will not wear any more high heels, meaning a more action-packed sequel.
Both Howard and co-star Chris Pratt will return in "Jurassic World 2," as revealed by The Wrap.
Proof of his return, as well as a long-standing film series, is Pratt's recent interview with Cinema Blend. Asked if he signed on for the "Jurassic Park" sequels, Pratt replied in jest:
"I am. They have me for I think 38 movies or something."
While the filmmakers have not revealed much of "Jurassic Park 2" or the "Jurassic Park" trilogy, in the end they will still go with what the audience wants. So the floor is yours.
What do you want to see in "Jurassic Park 2", or better yet the entire "Jurassic World" trilogy?
"Jurassic World 2" is set for release on June 7, 2018 in the UK and June 22, 2018 in the U.S., according to The Inquisitr.
