Calling all breakfast lovers! Who says WHO can stop us from getting fabulous day-starters by announcing bacon can cause us cancer? Of course, we will still fight for our love of food and success.
To help us enjoy both our mornings (and even the rest of the day) and good health, Yahoo Health and Eat This, Not That! Magazine team dissected our favourite fast food chains' awesome breakfast meals and ranked them from the worst to healthiest.
BURGER KING
#1 Worst Breakfast Award of Burger King goes to...
BK Ultimate Breakfast Platter that has: 1,130 calories, 55 g fat (12 g saturated), 2,380 mg sodium, 38 g sugar, 27 g protein
Take all the worst of BK's breakfast items-sausage, hash browns, syrupy pancakes, eggs and biscuit-and stuff them all on one plate. You will get a day and a half's worth of sodium right before your work starts!
#1 Best Breakfast Award at Burger King goes to...
Sausage Breakfast Burrito that has: 290 calories, 17 g fat (7 g saturated, 0g trans), 740 mg sodium, 1 g sugar, 14 g protein
It is very smart for Burger King to cut the calories in half and replace a "buttery and greasy" croissant or marginal English muffin with a healthy tortilla wrap. Sodium count for this favourite is fairly decent. Bonus points for white onions and peppers!
Taco Bell
Yes, they invented the "taco waffle" that almost single-handedly makes our mornings the most nutritionally hazardous time of the day. Let us see what more can they offer:
#1 Worst Breakfast Award at Taco Bell goes to...
A.M. Crunchwrap that has: 670 calories, 42 g fat (12 g saturated), 1300 mg sodium, 51 g carbs, 4 g fiber, 3 g sugar, 21 g protein
Yes, that is 670 calories! Consumes a full day's allowance of calories, saturated fat and sodium. It is made of fried potatoes topped with creamy jalapeno cheese and cheddar. You cannot definitely eat this even on cheat days, unless you want to spend more time in the gym.
#1 Best Breakfast Award at Taco Bell goes to...
A.M. Grilled Taco that has: 230 calories, 14 g fat (5 g saturated), 590 mg sodium, 15 g carbs, <1 g fiber, 1 g sugars, 12 g protein
Actually, this is the best-of-the-worst of Taco Bell's breakfast lineup since it has the lowest saturated fat and sugar content. Cheers to this taco, at least it contains cheddar cheese instead of a cheese sauce.
McDonald's
Finally of course, the default choice of everyone! McDonald's has always surprises for us and let us try not to be shocked with these revelations.
#1 Worst Breakfast Award at McDonald's goes to...
Steak, Egg & Cheese Bagel that has: 670 calories, 35 g fat (13 g saturated, 1.5 trans fat) 1,510 mg sodium, 56 g carbs, 33 g protein
This extraordinary bagel has more than half a day's fat and more sodium than the rest. As a matter of fact, it has much more sodium than 10 Chicken McNuggets!
#1 Best Breakfast Award at McDonald's goes to...
Yes, the classic. It has only 300 calories and 17 grams of protein plus carotenoids, essential fatty acids, vitamins and minerals from the egg.
