Having a safe and child-proof home has been a challenge to many of us. We try our best not to allow toxic and even carcinogenic chemicals live with us and the kids. However, Medical Daily has presented some harmful ingredients that can be found in our common household cleaning products.
In its consumer news, it says, "With so many hazardous household products these days, cleaning your house may actually cause more harm than good."
House Cleaning Supplies
You can springclean your homes without putting the lives of your loved ones in danger. According to a report, there are harmful ingredients that are present in your common home cleaning sprays and bottles. You should check their labels if they contain perchloroethylene or 'perc' (neurotoxin), triclosan and quats (aggressive antibacterial), phthalates (hormone disruptors), chlorine (thyroid disrupter), and sodium hydroxide (extremely corrosive). Too much exposure to these toxins can heighten the risks of asthma attacks, skin diseases and even cancer.
Air Fresheners
These should give you a refreshing smell but its mist can put the family members' health at risk. The Health Wyze Report emphasized that "air fresheners are potentially killing you". And some of its hidden components are again Phthalates and Dichlorobenzene. Its synthetic fragrances may consist of benzene and aldehydes, two compounds that are known to cause cancers, reproductive effects, and problems with the central nervous system.
What Else You Can Do
Doing loads of laundry as well as cleaning the countertop, oven, floors and walls are just some of the many household chores each family member does to keep a household up-and-running. But, everyone must be mindful that these chores can lead to a series of health complications, if not handled with caution. Getting rid of those potentially harmful chemicals luring in your cleaning supplies is still the best way to manage a safe and happy home.
Using natural and environmental-friendly cleaning products can do wonders in your homes. You can settle for better alternatives by making your own cleaning aides. You may go green and organic by using baking soda, lemon, lime and vinegar.
So, what are you waiting for? Check on your common household supplies, read product labels, and be a smarter housekeeper.
