[SEE] Dominic Cooper As Jesse Custer In Exciting First 'Preacher' Trailer [VIDEO]

The hugely popular 'Preacher' comic book series is officially being made into an AMC TV show, and the first action-packed trailer has just been released!

The TV series, which will star Dominic Cooper as the mysterious Jesse Custer, has unleashed its first official trailer during last Sunday's 'The Walking Dead.' Although it doesn't seem to show as much violence as the comic book, the teaser does offer a glimpse at Tulip O'Hare (Ruth Negga) and Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun) as well as Jesse's darker personality.

The trailer opens with a young boy approaching Jesse Custer about hurting his abusive father. Although the preacher initially declines, the boy keeps pushing until Jesse explains that things could escalate as a series of violent scenes are shown. "Is that what you want, kid?" Jesse finally asks.

Dominic Cooper appears to have taken on the role of Jesse Custer completely, even adopting an impressive Southern accent. The 'Agent Carter' star towers over the trailer as he breaks a poor man's arm.

The 'Preacher' TV series is being developed by Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen, who has previously confirmed that the show will not be following the comic book's storyline too closely.

"We are changing the specifics of how the narrative is unfolding," Rogen told CraveOnline. "A lot of the building blocks we are not changing, a lot of characters we're keeping, but we want to make a show that if you're a fan of the comic, you don't know what to expect."

According to Seth Rogen, the departure from the original story would be supported by 'Preacher' creator Garth Ennis.

"There's some things that even Garth will argue, is quick to admit that we probably should not even attempt to put on television," he said. "There's some characters, we're talking about maybe we combine these two into one person."

'Preacher' will air on AMC in 2016.
