Cracker Barrel Waitress Gets $6,000 Tip to Go Back To School

There are generous tips, and then there are really generous tips, according to a Nebraska waitress who got a $6,000 check from a customer to help her go back to school.

According to the Lincoln Journal, Abigail Sailors said a customer at the Cracker Barrel in Lincoln, NE left her $100 tip, along with two checks that totaled $6,000. The first check for $5,000 was to Trinity Bible College and a second check of $1,000 to Sailors, for her personal needs

"I said, 'Are you serious,' and my eyes just filled with tears. It's always been my dream college to go there and play basketball, and go to a Christian school where I can seek God," the 18-year-old told the Journal. "For that to actually come true and not have to worry about those finance  problems,"

Sailors shared the news with her sister after coming home from work. The Journal reported that Sailors completed one semester at the college in North Dakota, where studied youth ministry and psychology. Sailors also played for school's basketball team.

The Journal reported that Sailors took the waitressing job after learning she was unable to pay for her next semester of college.

Sailors, who is the youngest of five siblings, was in the care of foster families since she was only seven months old, after losing her parents in a car accident. She shared with her male customers several rough experiences and her love for her adoptive parents.

The waitress also expressed her desire to go back to school, which was placed on hold. The Journal reported that one of the customers graduated from Trinity and stated that the second check was for "whatever she needed."

"I couldn't really afford [tuition], so I was going to take some online classes and get some generals out of the way," Sailors later told KLKN-TV. "And all that turned around yesterday."

The Journal reported that Sailors will be heading to school within the following week and is excited to get back on her team.
