It’s a sad farewell — for now. One Direction played their final show of their current, and possibly last, world tour in Sheffield, United Kingdom, on October 31, and there wasn’t a dry eye in the arena.
Niall, Louis, Liam and Harry held back the tears as the world’s biggest pop foursome closed their last gig. One Direction bid an emotional farewell on Saturday night to fans at their final concert ahead of an “extended hiatus”.
October 31 was likely the toughest day for One Direction since Zayn Malik left the band. Their last concert of their world tour ended in Sheffield. At the end of the concert, the boys — brothers — let their emotions take over as they reflected on the last five years together.
Fans packed the Sheffield Arena in northern England on Halloween night in what was an emotional night for the Directioners and the band.
“Please don’t forget us,” Harry begged. “We will always be here for you, you guys are the most incredible fans.” The boys hugged on stage.
Feelings ran high at the backstage bash for the people who have been behind 1D during a five-year rise to megastardom.
“After the show in Sheffield, the guys were buzzing, but there was also a sense of accomplishment,” a source tells HollywoodLife.
“They’ve come such a long way since they were young boys looking to get ahead on X Factor, and the sudden realization that they will be taking a long break from it really hit home. There were some tears shed, the guys hugged each other and wished each other well as they go on their own paths for now. There was no animosity between them on the final night.”
The boys agreed to take a much-needed break, and many believed this would be the last time fans would see One Direction on stage together. “I can tell you this, we will be back,” Niall Horan told fans, according to the UK’s Independent.
The band will release a fifth album later this year and will sing at The X Factor final – tipped to be the last ever 1D performance.
