Everyone knows that "Seen" receipt when sending messages over Facebook. It's on the two ends of one spectrum: it can either be really helpful to your life, or it can actually be something that's ruining it.
Read receipts could be helpful in such a way that it serves as an acknowledgment that someone has received and read your message. But apparently, it has created some problems for others; Cosmopolitan UK puts it as:
"The read receipt; the enemy of all who wish to gaze upon wistful messages from a long lost (for a reason) frenemies, then pretend they didn't receive them. Wouldn't it be nice for everyone involved if you could read your Facebook messages and think, 'LOL I'll reply later/never,' without a tick and the word 'Seen' giving you away?"
Apparently, there are new ways to make these "Seen" receipts go away and make your life less troublesome. Here are some things you can consider using on different platforms:
Unseen on Chrome
Thanks to some tech-savvy Chrome users, the Google Chrome browser can now have the Facebook Unseen add-on. The extension helps users to disable any read receipts any time you send a message through the Chrome browser. You can click here for easy downloading.
Unseen on Firefox
Just like Google Chrome, there's an extension any user can download and add to their browser. It works the same way as the Chrome browser - disabling read receipts as long as you send the message through a Firefox browser. It's pretty easy, not to mention fast, to install. Click here for the download link.
Unread on iPhone
Now that your browsers are covered, it's time to help you out with those read receipts on your iPhone. Unread is an iOS app that allows users to read their messages privately.
It's a separate app from Messenger - think of it as the incognito window - where you enter in your Facebook login details and read your messages from there. Here's the download link.
Adblock Plus
For people using Adblock, this is a quick and easy fix without having to download apps or extensions. All you need to do is add a customer filter than can easily block the "Seen" notifications. Just add this link to your block list: facebook.com/ajax/mercury/change_read_status.php$xmlhttprequest.
