Skype Update: Skype Adds Snapchat-like Video Filters

Skype has been vamping up its features recently, adding Mojis and Skype Translator in its platform. More so, Skype introduced unique URLs so anyone can join in on a conversation even if that person has no Skype. And the latest update is proving its efforts to keep up with the technology.

Last Wednesday, Skype has launched video messaging filters, a feature that is not foreign to Snapchat users as reported in Mashable (https://mashable.com/2015/10/29/skype-video-filters/#EZA6phognPqd). This option already exists in Snapchat. With Skype, you can choose from 11 filters, including floating balloons, face distortion and negative filter.

Here's how you can use the new feature:

Select the contact you want to message to open up the conversation window. Tap the circle icon at the bottom of the screen to open up a video message window.

On the video message screen, tap the wand icon found at the bottom left to access the filters. Choose a filter to preview the action. When you're ready, hit record and watch the filters appear in the video.

Press again the record button to stop, and then tap the airplane icon to send. You may also preview the filtered message before sending by tapping the video's play button.

"Some moments can't be captured by words or pictures alone," the company said in a statement. "Video messages allow you to record short clips and send them to your Skype contacts to be viewed at any time; they don't have to be online. Capture and share a fleeting memory, create a heartfelt reminder, or simply tell a friend or family member 'wish you were here'."

The video message filters are available for Android, iPhone and iPad.

New features in Skype 6.5 for iPhone and iPad are also reported to be available. You may "Peek and Pop" with 3D Touch on an iPhone 6S and 6S Plus. Force Touch the app icon and you can quickly search contacts, start a call or chat and access the Skype dial pad. You may also do the same in recent conversation to view the most recent message or live video even if you are on a call. If you are in a conversation, you may also use the same feature to peek a photo, contact or URL.

The iPhone and iPad update also allows you to hide conversations or delete an entire chat history. More so, you may contact someone by clicking the contact card icon in a conversation.

These recent updates in Skype are a sure sign that it plans to stay and keep up with technology and users' lifestyle. Anything else that you'd want Skype to add? Share us your thoughts by leaving your comments below.
