Bindi Irwin’s Emotional Breakthrough About Her Dad: ‘I Hope He’d Be Proud’

On Today Show's preview clip Bindi Irwin reveals to co-host Lisa Wilkinson a more vulnerable and emotional side, as she opens up about life after losing her father Steve Irwin in 2006. He most recent Australian interview is yet to be aired next week.

“I knew that it was coming,” Bindi says, describing the emotional turmoil she has felt over her late father’s death. “It was kind of just reaching a place that I haven’t– that I haven’t even thought about. You kind of just push things aside, push things away,” she adds.

The teenager, who has been a fan favorite since her debut, on ABC's Dancing With The Stars opened up about the painful loss of her father. The beloved Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin, passed away in 2006 at the age of 44 after he was attacked by a stingray.

Then up on the screen, an old photograph of Bindi with Steve, as well as her mother Terri and younger brother Robert is flashed. 

While it's important that they maintain her late husband's legacy, Terri, Bindi's mom speaks about the importance of moving on. Bindi tells Lisa, "I hope he'd be proud, I really, really do." 

The interview becomes a family affair when the 51-year-old, mother of two says: "You can have joy and light in your life again," and one person who is very proud of Bindi is her 11-year-old, brother Robert also known as Bob. "It's just beautiful, it's incredible," Bob says to his sister after a clip of Bindi dancing is shown. Then Bindi gives her brother a huge hugs. 

In recent weeks, she has captivated the nation with her strong form on the dance floor in the US series of Dancing With The Stars.

Bindi's family have been by her side as she's been competing on the twenty-first season of Dancing with the Stars.

Terri and Robert both temporarily moved to Los Angeles so that she could take part in the show, where she excels on the dance floor from week to week with her partner Derek Hough.
