Before anyone even saw any actual footage of Adam Sandler's Netflix movie "The Ridiculous 6," it had already become controversial for the film's alleged stereotypical and racist jokes.
"The Ridiculous 6" has finally released its trailer - and it even features a whole lot of comedians, as well as some cameos from other actors. E! News reports:
"The trailer for the Western satire that stars Sandler and his usual troupe of actors (Steve Buscemi, Rob Schneider, David Spade) as well as Taylor Lautner, Luke Wilson, Jorge Garcia, Terry Crews and Danny Trejo, features lots of shoot 'em up action and Sandler in action as a character named 'White Knife.'
"The official synopsis of the movie reads: 'When his long-lost outlaw father returns, Tommy 'White Knife' Stockburn goes on an adventure-filled journey across the Old West with his five brothers.'"
Apparently, you can also expect to see Vanilla Ice, Blake Shelton, Jon Lovitz and Dan Aykroyd making cameos in the movie.
Not only that, but other stars of the film include Will Forte, John Turturro, Whitney Cummings, Norm Macdonald, Nick Nolte, Steve Zahn, and Harvey Keitel.
According to an April 23 report from Indian Country Today:
"Approximately a dozen Native actors and actresses, as well as the Native cultural advisor, left the set of Adam Sandler's newest film production, 'The Ridiculous Six,' on Wednesday. The actors, who were primarily from the Navajo nation, left the set after the satirical western's script repeatedly insulted native women and elders and grossly misrepresented Apache culture."
In response to the controversy, Netflix issued a statement:
"The movie has ridiculous in the title for a reason: because it is ridiculous. It is a broad satire of Western movies and the stereotypes they popularized, featuring a diverse cast that is not only part of - but in on - the joke."
"The Ridiculous 6" - directed by Frank Coraci and produced by Happy Madison Productions, is set for its streaming release on Netflix beginning December 11.
Adam Sandler net worth is $360 million. He reportedly earns $20 million per film.
