Android recently launched its newest OS, Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Aside from all latest updates, one of the most important features of this operating system is the fingerprint Application Programming Interface (API) finger print reader technology as announced by Android. It enables you not only to lock and protect your phone in general, but it now allows users to place authorization purchases on Google Play Store. With this advancement in mobile technology, users can now place online purchases securely and more efficiently.
Apple kicked off the fingerprint sensor technology in authorizing payments on the app store with the release of IPhone 5s last 2013.
According to a report by Techtimes, some of the latest smartphones also uses this finger print technology including the latest Galaxy S6 variants, Note 5, Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, Sony Xperia Z5, and OnePlus 2. However, the fingerprint authentication in these devices are only used for unlocking the screens but not intended for online purchasing. The Android Police first spotted this option in a teardown of the v5.9 customer last September. As of now, only the newest LG Nexus 5X and Huawei Nexus 6P have the option to authorize Google Play Store purchases.
This feature is not automatically enabled, so users should first activate it using their Google Play Store accounts. They need to access play store settings and click on 'User Control' to activate 'Fingerprint Authentication.' It will ask for one's google password which needs to be entered one time. You then have the option to activate or deactivate it anytime by ticking the box on or off. Future purchases can now be possible with just one tap of the finger. Users also have the option to still use their password in purchasing if they prefer.
According to Android, future devices running on 6.0 Marshmallow OS with finger print readers can take advantage of this latest addition.
