What Is Luke Skywalker's Connection To Kylo Ren In 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens?' [SPOILERS]

If you've seen the final trailer for 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens,' you must have noticed that every single major character is featured in the two-minute teaser, except for one: Luke Skywalker. Although it is believed that the Last Jedi is actually the hooded figure reaching out to R2-D2 with a robotic arm that has been featured in the previous trailers, fans have chosen to rely on their own theories.

One of the more popular (and rather ridiculous) theory claims that Kylo Ren is actually Luke Skywalker, although this can easily be disproved by the separate casting of Adam Driver and Mark Hamill. The final trailer also showed that Kylo Ren has removed his mask as he attacks the lighsaber-wielding Finn (John Boyega).

So Kylo Ren is not Luke Skywalker, but can they possibly be connected?

A new theory from GeekTyrant suggests that Luke Skywalker could have given Kylo Ren his start.

"I believe that Luke Skywalker is the person who started the Knights of Ren, or an original branch of it. I think he started the Knights of Ren as a Jedi Knight offshoot for the purpose of doing good and as a way to help keep the Galaxy in balance. Maybe even as a way to try to help right the wrongs of his father," the site wrote.

But how did the Knights of Ren end up working for the evil Supreme Leader Snoke?

"I think maybe Snoke is the person that was connected with Luke at some point, and that they had a parting of ways. A lot can happen between two people in 30 years," the site wrote. "I think Kylo Ren went against the teachings of Luke after he finds out some kind of truth about Darth Vader that he wasn't told before, and like we learned in the trailer, Ren wants to finish what Vader started. He thinks what he's doing is heroic."

Is Kylo Ren just a misguided Luke Skywalker pupil? The truth will finally be known when 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' premieres on December 18.
