Last week, presidential nominee Jeb Bush, the third politician in the Bush dynasty after father George H. W. and George W., was asked about his favorite superhero only to say that Melissa Benoist's new show on Superman's cousin Kara was "pretty hot" - and, of course, Jeb Bush's "Supergirl" statement ended up becoming viral.
Days later, the actress was asked what she thought about Jeb Bush's "Supergirl" comments, and Benoist seemed more than a little awkward when addressing the former Florida governor's thoughts on her looks.
According to Yahoo! News, Benoist appeared on "CBS This Morning" last Monday to discuss her new show, when she was asked if she was aware of Jeb Bush's "Supergirl" comments and what she thought of the politician's stand on her show, and the 27 year-old star laughed it off awkwardly.
"I definitely - I heard about it, but you know I don't know what to think about it," said Benoist of Jeb Bush's "Supergirl" comments last week, according to Talking Points Memo. "I'm glad he's excited to watch the show."
As The Daily Mail reports, Benoist's awkward response came during an interview where a strong point was the reintroduction of a female superhero to primetime television, so discussing Jeb Bush's "Supergirl" comments, besides being awkward in itself, was all kinds of uncomfortable within the context of a girl power show.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the interview ahead of the Monday premiere of the show was focused on the much-needed appearance of a female superhero on television, the first in over a decade, and its effects on young girls and how Kara Zor-El could become a great role model for girls.
"Supergirl" isn't the only female superhero show being released in the next few weeks, as Netflix prepares the second Marvel Cinematic Universe female-driven show, "A.K.A. Jessica Jones," as "Agent Carter" nears its second season.
In any case, watch Benoist talk about those Jeb Bush "Supergirl" comments in the clip below!
