Ryan Adams Defends Dark Tribute To 1989, Compared Covering Taylor Swift To Performing Shakespeare

Is Ryan Adams a Swiftie? He sounds like he is one.

Just like everyone else, Ryan Adams has just fallen in love with Taylor Swift's music. During his recent interview with The Guardian, the 40-year old rock star compared the 'Bad Blood' hit-maker to the great poet and playwright, William Shakespeare.

After the release of Adam's song-for-song cover of Taylor Swift's record-breaking album '1989', the cover song immediately made headlines and has brought eye-rolling reactions from some fans and critics.

Besides admitting that the first song of Taylor Swift he fell in love with was 'White Horse', it turned out that the reactions didn't matter to Adams, who admitted working on the cover song was like being a 'Ghostbusters' actor, then switched to having to "go do Shakespeare."

"The first time I heard it I got chills head to toe. I remember feeling shocked by her voice, shocked at how clean that song was," Adams told The Guardian. "I just thought about how this is hitting me like a tidal wave, it's so romantic and so beautiful, and yet so sad and so disillusioned, it's all the stuff I love about the Smiths."

Adams also did not miss out sharing what made him admire Swift's music, saying "I like stuff that sort of penetrates through my regular consciousness and hits me where I'm not looking. That's usually stuff that's a little darker."

Reports say that prior to the cover song, the two have already collaborated with an unreleased track back when Taylor was completing her 2012 album 'Red'.

"She got hold of me, and she came over, and we just dove into a tune. It was already a great tune, I didn't need to do anything to it. I just kind of messed around it. We finished it and it was great." Adams said.

It's obvious, Taylor Swift is a complete domination in the music industry that even great musicians like Ryan Adams admire her music.
