As Sony continues to soar in the field of gaming consoles, several reports have unveiled that the company might consider an enhanced PS4 that provides an Ultra HD Blu-ray.
In an interview with 4Gamers which tackled the idea of Ultra-HD Blu-ray and 4K Blu-ray, Masayasu Ito gave the reporter a hint of what the Japanese tech company is planning to do.
"The Blu-ray disc drive that is currently installed in the PS4 is made exclusively for the Blu-ray disc player, so it cannot read the 3-layer media that is standardized by Ultra HD Blu-ray. For this reason, the PlayStation 4 models that are out in the market cannot be compatible with Ultra HD Blu-ray", stated by the SCE vice president.
As what Ito has mentioned, Sony is currently dealing with the problem of the HD Blu-ray compatibility. However, the multinational company assured that they can manufacture an enhanced PS4 unit that can read and accommodate the specifications of an Ultra HD Blu-ray.
Ito also mentioned that pursuing the idea should be done with proper considerations. One of the major factor that they are sighting is the future market of the enhanced unit. The company is considering the number of units they can sell and the possible cost of the said units.
According to 4Gamers, a high quality Ultra HD Blu-ray display can only be achieved in a 4K or UHD Television. The small number of people using these advanced TVs makes the market of the said technology tougher and difficult to penetrate.
On the same interview, Ito stated that there will be several third-party games that will be released in terms of the PlayStation Vita developments. A new set of colors for the PlayStation Vita will also be launched this coming fall.
Ito also tackled Sony's enhancement on their PlayStation VR which displays a separate screen mode that is quite comparable to the one used for the PlayStation 4.
