Peter Gammons Apologizes For Comparing Baseball Player Alex Rodriguez to Boston Bombers (AUDIO)

Longtime baseball analyst Peter Gammons found himself in a bit of hot water after his most recent comments about the ongoing Alex Rodriguez saga.

In an interview with Mike Lupica on ESPN radio, Gammons was asked about Rodriguez's erratic behavior lately and the baseball star's recent impromptu interview with Mike Francesca, after storming out of his arbitration hearing Wednesday.

"I've had people with the Yankees say this to me, he is just he wants to blow up the world. You know, he's like the marathon bombers," Gammons said. "It's just, he's going to get them."

Gammons was referencing the Boston Marathon bombing in April which killed three people and wounded 264. Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 29, who died in a later shootout with police, and 19-year-old Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, were identified as suspects in the bombing.

The comments followed Rodriguez storming out of a Major League baseball arbitration hearing this week as the Yankee star fights what could be a career-ending 211-game ban for using performance enhancing drugs, according to ESPN.

"I'm not sure I have any answers to it, because it was so crazy," said Gammons. "Everybody's just running after the money, is what it all comes down to."

Shortly after the statement made the rounds online, Gammons apologized via Twitter.

"It was a stupid, poorly worded [comparison] of blowing up a process. Alex would never hurt a human. I hope I haven't hurt him," Gammons said. "He is owed, and gets my apology for mispeaking."

Craig Calcaterra, of NBC Sports.com, was one of the first to respond to the comments.
