Shonda Rhimes ABC: New Show ‘Still Star-Crossed’ Marked As ‘Romeo And Juliet’ Sequel, How Is Shondaland Remaking Shakespeare?

In this day and age of sequels and reboots it would seem like nothing is sacred, and now the latest television news cements that idea once more as a sequel to "Romeo and Juliet" is announced, turning into the newest Shonda Rhimes ABC series.

The Disney-owned network has seen all kinds of success with Shonda Rhimes' ABC involvement, with Ellen Pompeo's "Grey's Anatomy" currently in its twelfth season, Kerry Washington's "Scandal" on its fifth and "How To Get Away with Murder" on its second fresh out of an Emmy win for Viola Davis - so, now, it's time for the superstar producer to tackle William Shakespeare's classic story.

According to Time Magazine, the next Shonda Rhimes ABC project will be called "Still Star-Crossed" and it will tell the story of the ongoing conflict between the Montagues and Capulets after the deaths of Romeo and Juliet.

Variety reports that this upcoming Shonda Rhimes ABC project will be based on the 2013 by the same name by Melinda Taub and Rhimes, Betsy Beers and scribe Heather Mitchell will produce.

According to Refinery29, while it's unclear how things will go down in Rhimes' upcoming series, the novel sees the two feuding families vowing to end the violence between them through marriage, while further conflict and intrigue arises in the fair city of Verona.

This will be the fifth altogether Shonda Rhimes ABC project, as besides the above-mentioned shows already released, this year will see the premiere of her latest series, "The Catch," which will star Mireille Enos and Peter Krause, set for a midseason start during the "HTGAWM" hiatus.

There are a few other projects in the works for the "Scandal" producer, including divorce comedy "Splitsville," a new medical drama and another one about nuns - in all, little by little, Rhimes seems to be heading a good portion of everything that goes down the network.

Perhaps some time from now, Shonda Rhimes' ABC ventures will stop and she'll get her own channel to play her numerous shows!
