Feast your eyes and ears on West Japan's Hamburgirl Z, the hamburger-themed girl band, probably the only hamburger-themed girl band in the world.
It takes more than music to standout among the huge competition in the pop industry. A group should create a gimmick so they could stand out. And Hamburgirl Z is doing just that. More so, they are not just any other girl band, they are an idol group. This means they can do more than just sing. Idol groups are expected to be role models for teens and they are endorsed based on their personality and cuteness as defined in Metro UK .
According to Oddity Central, Hamburgirl Z is a "group of cute, smiling girls dancing and singing in hamburger costumes" as defined by Tofugu, a Japanese culture blogger. Their ultimate purpose is to serenade hamburger lovers by singing songs about burgers. In fact, the entire purpose is to sing and dance in support of Awajishima Island's burger industry.
Awajishima refers to an island off the coast of Japan. According to band's manager, Shintaro Yabu, the group started as an effort to promote the hamburgers of the island but eventually, the group has evolved to become an all around Japanese idol group.
Now here's the fun part. The girls are dressed like different hamburger ingredients. Each girl wears a little hat to represent her ingredients, and all of them have coordinated hamburger themed outfits. Remembering their names is a piece of cake. There's beef, lettuce, egg, tomato, fish, chicken, onion, pork/bacon, avocado, pineapple, pickles, mushroom, green pepper and eggplant. The group has a total of 15 members, representing 14 ingredients.
The all-girl group are said to perform at a variety of events across West Japan. They are also said to sell merchandise after the concert. Although the singing prowess of the group is rather mediocre, it doesn't seem to affect their popularity.
"Fans become part of the event by shouting along to the music. And, they don't attend these events with the sole purpose of watching a group of commendable, charming, and kind-hearted girls sing and dance to catchy music. Instead, it's a chance for them to let go and put on a performance of their own by singing, dancing, and cheering on the idols that are just a few feet in front of them."
Hamburgirl Z is planning to tour the rest of Japan.
