Now on its third season, Lay's Do Us A Flavor recently concluded their search for the most out of this world chip flavor to hit the supermarket stands.
America has spoken, and the long wait is over.
The winning flavor for this year is -
Southern Biscuits and Gravy!
The winning flavor was created by the 25-year-old, travel agent, Hailey Green of Noblesville, Indiana. Green's inspiration for the said flavor stems from her appreciation of good o'le 'homemade style' Southern food that reminds her of her childhood, especially her grandmother's cooking. Lay's also said in their press release, "One of Hailey's favorite dishes is biscuits and gravy - a recipe that was handed down in her family generation after generation." No wonder it was her flavor of choice!
Her creation was voted by millions of Lay's consumers and foodies alike, defeating four other equally interesting flavors - Kettle Cooked Greektown Gyro, New York Reuben, and Wavy West Coast Truffle Fries. She was again visited by Nick Lachey to deliver the good news, just like what the TV personality did when he surprised all four finalists at their very homes telling them they made the cut as a finalist for the contest.
According to Yahoo Food, as a grand prize winner, Hailey will receive a whooping one million dollar or 1% of the flavor's net sales through July 15, 2016 - whichever monetary value is higher. While the three other finalists will take home, a decent, $50,000 each - not bad at all!
Yahoo Food did a curious blind tasting of all four finalists in July, and as they mentioned in their review, the million dollar flavor 'sort of' tasted like biscuits and gravy. They added that it was "very savory, almost meat-like in flavor. We noted hints rosemary, too. On the whole, the flavor recalls a Thanksgiving turkey."
