‘Jack Reacher 2’: Production of Tom Cruise Film Begins, New Title Revealed

"Jack Reacher 2" production has begun, with a confirmed set of cast members including Tom Cruise, and a brand new name - "Jack Reacher: Never Go Back."

The new film in production, based on Lee Child's hit novel series and a sequel to 2012's action flick "Jack Reacher," has Tom Cruise reprising his role as the former main protagonist, according to Den of Geek.

With production beginning early than originally planned, supposedly November, there is high chance that the film will be released early as well.

The confirmed cast joining Tom Cruise in "Jack Reacher: Never Go Back" include Cobie Smulders, Patrick Heusinger, Danika Yorash, Aldis Hodge and Austin Hebert. Director Ed Zwick of the "Last Samurai" will be reuniting with Cruise for this sequel, reported Games Radar

Details of the movie's plot remains unknown, other than it is based on Richard Wenk's original script, which has undergone rewrites with producing partner Marshall Herskovitz.

Zwick recently revealed that he is excited about directing "Jack Reacher: Never Go Back," especially with the Cruise reunion.

In August, the director told JoBlo

"We had a great experience together. He [Cruise] is one of those actors who is unbelievably hard working and willing. And this happens to be another genre that I've never worked in before and I thought, okay, let's try that. I want to keep challenging myself in different ways but it's really good to be in the context of a relationship that you know and that you've had a good time with."

In "Jack Reacher: Never Go Back," Cruise returns as the badass army base hero, reconnecting with his past romance. Later on, he finds out that she has been arrested. With this knowledge, Jack investigates her arrest but finds himself getting into deeper trouble than he expected, crime and deception included.

In 2012, "Jack Reacher" reportedly grossed $218 million, despite a delay in its scheduled release due to the Connecticut school shooting. According to The Inquisitr, Paramount Pictures decided to delay the film out of respect to lives lost in the shooting. Despite an opening scene that drew criticism in 2012, the new sequel may yet be another success for Tom Cruise if no such thing occurs again.

"Jack Reacher: Never Go Back" is set for release on October 21 2016 in the UK and US.
