Two researchers from the University of Minnesota said that people don't usually include fruits in their menu and don't eat enough fruits, according to Medical Daily. But these days people are beginning to pay more attention to their diet, thus making them choose healthier food as part of their daily menu.
These researchers reviewed the scientific literature on pears and after performing the review, they said that this fruit is a good source of vitamin C and fiber, containing only 100 calories. These fruits are grown in California and Washington.
Dr. Joanne Slavin, a professor of food science and nutrition and Holly Reiland, a food science graduate student wrote that pears contain high content of dietary fiber. Their effects on health are what set them apart from other fruits. This is the one of the oldest plants in the world and has been used as a remedy in China for more than 2,000 years. They have used this fruit for its anti-inflammatory, anti-hyperglycemic component. It also acts as a diuretic. People around the world use this as a home remedy for coughs, constipation and of course hangover.
The US Dietary Guidelines always advise people to eat fruits regularly as part of their daily diet and that they would help reduce the risk of chronic diseases. However, though this is the case not a lot has been published on the health benefits of fruits like pears.
Generally, they found many positive sides about pears, one of them is the taste. Pears have fructose and sorbitol which means that they can be sweet enough if eaten as a snack. The researchers say that if you consume a medium pear, you gain about 24 percent of your daily fiber needs. This fruit is sodium, fat and cholesterol-free plus it contains 190mg of potassium.
In conclusion, the authors said that most scientific research group pears with other fruits like apples, further study is needed for pear alone.
